Mattapoisett student Mackenzie Riley has been awarded the Superintendent’s Certificate of Academic Excellence for the district. 

Superintendent Douglas White said at an Oct. 23 School Committee meeting that he awards the certificate based on three year average, a class rank in the top 5% of class, academics, fine arts. 

Riley has a 4.545 GPA, which puts her at second in the class. She is also a musician.

In a personal statement, Riley addressed activities as diverse as tutoring her peers and drama productions, but said that the common thread was “helping students out however I can.” 

She hopes to do biochemical research in the future. 

In awarding Riley, White called her “caring, talented and motivated.”
