Mattapoisett Town Clerk candidate Catherine Heuberger

Catherine Heuberger has worked in the treasurer/tax collector’s office at Town Hall for nine years. With her bid for town clerk, Heuberger says she feels it is the next logical step for her career.

“The people I work with are awesome. I just felt that it was time to do something a little different,” she said.

Heuberger, a lifelong resident of Mattapoisett who has four children with husband Milton Heuberger III, said she has learned a lot about the town during her time at Town Hall.

“Working in the tax collector office has given me a lot of experience working with the residents, getting to know everybody, the inner workings of town government,” she said.

Heuberger graduated from Old Rochester Regional High School and went on to get her associate's degree in business administration from Bristol Community College. She worked at Compass Bank before coming to the Town Hall.

If elected as Town Clerk, Heuberger said keeping the office a welcoming place is a priority. One upgrade she would like to make is improving the online payment option for residents to take care of bills.

So far, Heuberger said she has gotten a good reception from residents.

“A lot of people I find know me from the tax collector’s office, but they don’t put together the name and the face,” she said. By spending time meeting people at the post office as well as local establishments, Heuberger hopes to change that and garner enough votes to win the election.

“I love the Town Hall. I love the residents,” she said.
