Mattapoisett Woman's Club looks ahead to full year
The Mattapoisett Woman's Club already has a full roster of events for 2016.
In addition to its monthly programs, the group is planning a garden tour, will participate in Taste of the Town, bake pies for Harbor Days this summer, and celebrate its 75th anniversary in the fall.
In January, Gerry Rooney, president and CEO of the Whitfield-Manjiro Friendship Society, Inc., will give a talk and PowerPoint presentation focusing on his three and a half year around the world trip by bike and motor scooter from 1964 to 67. He has traveled to the top of the Gothard Pass in the Alps and down to sea level across the Afluits Dyke in Holland.
Rooney has many adventures to relate, including an encounter with two Arab Bedouin tribesmen wielding weapons in the Jordanian desert.
Rooney will discuss his travels on Thursday, Jan. 21 during the Woman's Club's first meeting of the new year. He will also have a few copies of his book, "Hello Brother," for sale.
The program begins at noon with lunch followed by the program in Reynard Hall, Mattapoisett Congregational Church, 27 Church St. For more information or directions, call Barb Van Inwegen at 508-864-5213.
