McGee Music Scholarship Fund celebrates 10 years

Aug 17, 2013

The Brendan M. McGee Music Scholarship Fund at the Rochester Memorial School celebrated its tenth anniversary this year. The fund continues to give financial support to any fourth fifth, or sixth grade student interested in playing a musical instrument.

This year, instruments purchased for the Rochester Memorial School could be heard during the town’s Memorial Day Parade, including a snare drum and a pair of marching crash cymbals. Also purchased, a cymbal stand, conga drum, and two keyboards for the music room, which services students in Kindergarten through sixth grade.

The music fund awards scholarship money for the full purchase of a musical instrument to a sixth grade band member who will continue his or her music career at the junior high school. The instrument’s carrying case bears a small plaque signifying the gift is in memory Brendan McGee, a former Old Rochester Regional High School band member. McGee passed away in 2003. This year, students Emma Harris, Megan Shay, and Katy Kand received a flugelhorn, trombone, and bass clarinet respectively.

Donations to support the fund can be mailed to: Bob and Maggie McGee, 91 Paradise Lane, Rochester, MA 02770. Make checks payable to Town of Rochester.
