Murphy appointed to Marion harbormaster role
MARION — After four months as Marion’s interim harbormaster, the Marion Select Board officially appointed Adam Murphy to the role of Marion Harbormaster during a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
“He stepped into a summer of transition and immediately accepted the roles and responsibilities of interim harbormaster,” said Marion Town Administrator Geoff Gorman. “He and his team did a remarkable job maintaining the high level of service in the harbor … expertly managing a potential Tropical Storm all the while keeping up with the demanding day to day operations of the harbor.”
Murphy also sits on the Rochester Select Board.
According to Marion Police Chief Richard Nighelli, Murphy graduated from Old Rochester Regional High School in 2000 and joined the Marion Police Department in 2015. Nighelli added that Murphy had received a commendation from the police department for “an incident on the water.”
“Murphy’s actions, without regard for his own safety, exhibited the highest qualities of the Marion Police Department,” said Nighelli.
“I’m confident that [Murphy] has the skills, dedication, work ethic and drive [for the role],” said Nighelli.
