New appointments, same faces in Marion

Nov 20, 2018

MARION — Two new staff appointments have changed the Marion Police Department and the Harbormaster’s Department, but the faces will stay the same.

On Nov. 20, Marion Selectmen, at the recommendation of Marion Police Chief John Garcia, appointed current Assistant Harbormaster Peter Bourgault a special police officer, which gives him additional law enforcement authority on the waters.

“This is being done primarily to expand his authority as a harbormaster,” said Garcia. “Out on the water he may encounter some criminal activities or domestic assaults.”

Bourgault, a Wareham resident, served the Coast Guard for 20 years and works for the Marion Fire Department.

Selectmen also heard from Garcia about the appointment of Sean Day to a full-time position with the department.

Day was appointed last year as a probationary officer and has completed the required probation period.

Garcia told the board that Officer Day has been doing a good job during his time with the department and recommended his appointment.
