Superintendent Aaron Polansky's newest baby is arriving at Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School next month.

The new TV & Broadcasting Club “was Aaron's baby," says club director and business technology teacher Marsha Metivier. "And I have a background in TV, so I'm here to direct."

The school is partnering both ORCTV, the tri-town's local cable TV station, and the Acushnet and Lakeville equivalent, LakeCam. The vocational school accepts students from Mattapoisett, Rochester, Lakeville, Acushnet and Carver.

The club will prepare TV programs out of a small — and equally new — studio, located in the former office of Old Colony Athletic Director Matt Trahan. The programs will be filmed and edited using two video kits and a video editing suite provided by ORCTV and LakeCam.

Metivier hopes to broadcast one program a month, focusing on such topics as outstanding students, where students are doing “co-op” work, vocational areas and sports teams.

One student, Metivier said, has expressed interest in filming her own cooking show at the school. "I would love that, it would be so fantastic if it happened!" she enthused.

The club will make use of talent from throughout the school. A music class will write and perform the program's introductory jingle. Students of graphic design, meanwhile, will add their flare to the editing process

Will Superintendent Polansky have an on-camera role with his baby? No one is saying. But the man whose singing snow-day announcement went viral on YouTube and who more recently performed as a wrestler at the Rochester Country Fair might just find his face on school TV.

Metivier says she expects about a dozen students to join the club. The first meeting will be held on Oct. 5. Metivier hopes to have the first TV program broadcast by the end of October.
