Old Colony: 'Trunk or Treat, give us something good to eat'
Pumpkins are appearing everywhere, and red leaves are falling. All signs point to one thing; it's almost Halloween.
Old Colony's National Honor Society is getting into the spirit of the season and holding an event called “Trunk or Treat” from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 27.
Trunk or Treat is intended for children aged ten and under. Students and staff at Old Colony will be decorating their cars, and will have candy and other Halloween treats available. The children can walk from car to car to gather their Halloween candy.
The event was originally thought up by Marcie Gamelin, a math teacher at Old Colony, and advisor of the school's National Honor Society. The students of the National Honor Society, hoping to put on a Halloween event, had originally planned to put on a haunted house.
There was a flaw in the plan though: fear. "The students realized that Trunk or Treat would be a safer thing for kids than a haunted house," Gamelin said. "This is a great thing for Old Colony students to do and a way to give back to the community."
In addition to trick or treating, there will be a donut eating contest and a screaming contest during the night.
Admission is free, but donations to 21 Friends will be accepted during the night. The foundation aids children with Down Syndrome and their families.
