Old Colony's Pringle passes on praise
Football, basketball, baseball star Jake Pringle has a lot to say about his team, but he’s not the most talkative when it comes to his own record breaking.
“I’m more looking at the team victories, the team breaking records,” said Pringle, a native of Acushnet. “I’m just trying for a winning season.”
The Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School senior said last year was rocky at the beginning of the football season and ended with a satisfying, if not championship, win.
This year, Pringle said the team is much improved.
“We have a lot of linemen coming back, which are the unspoken heroes of the football team,” he said.
But the quarterback and team captain, is definitely making a name for himself.
Last year he broke the single season record for touchdown passes with 12, two higher than the previous record.
This year he’s already broken the career touchdown record, exceeding 17, and he’s still got a few months to go.
To add to that, in baseball, he’s pitched the most strikeouts in the school’s history. But ask just how many that is, and he’s at a loss.
“A lot,” he answers. “It’s nice, but it wasn’t one of my goals going in.”
Still, Pringle’s athleticism has drawn a lot of attention. He’s got a few Division 1 schools looking at him for football and a few Division 2 and 3 schools scouting him for baseball.
“I’m not sure if I want to go for football, baseball, or both,” said Pringle.
But two things are certain.
Pringle wants to study criminal justice in college, and he’s glad he chose to go to Old Colony.
“I’m definitely thankful that I made that decision."
