Old Hammondtown sixth graders graduate

MATTAPOISETT -- Center School’s sixth grade graduates were honored with diplomas and superlatives on June 21.

At the graduation ceremony at Center School’s playground Mattapoisett School Committee member Karen Barrows commended the students for getting through a year that was “unlike any other.”

“Your years here are just a fraction of the years ahead of you,” Associate Principal Kevin Tavares said, adding that he hopes the sixth grade class will bring what they learned at OHS with them as they grow up.

Students were given diplomas and a superlative like wittiest student, most likely to play in the World Series, or best friend to have, as they prepared to leave for junior high.

But some students didn’t want to leave at all.

“To say I don’t want to go is an understatement,” Zadie Goyette, who spoke at the graduation, said.

She said she has fond memories of days both fun and challenging at the school.

“Don’t forget me Old Hammondtown,” Goyette said. “Because you know I won’t forget you.”
