Old Rochester athletes commit to colleges

Nov 17, 2020

Even with no season to speak of so far this year, some Old Rochester Regional High School athletes have proved their worth to colleges.

Marion soccer player Rachael Fantoni and Mattapoisett lacrosse player Ryan Quinlan both signed with colleges this week.

On Nov. 11, Quinlan signed with UMass Lowell to play lacrosse after playing on both OR’s lacrosse and football teams.

On Nov. 17, Fantoni signed with Franklin Pierce University, where she’ll pursue a five-year Masters of Business administration degree.

Quinlan went first team all South Coast conference in his sophomore season, and was unable to compete last season due to covid.

He received offers from Wagner College and Salisbury University, but chose UMass Lowell for its tightly knit team and bucolic campus.

Fantoni said she didn’t want to deal with the heavy commitment of Division I athletics, so she kept much of her search to Division II and III schools.

And coupled with the small New England campus, Fantoni found a fit at Franklin Pierce.

“It was a process to say the least,” she said of her college search.
