BOURNE — The Old Rochester Regional girls ice hockey team beat their seasonal record after a  win against Dennis-Yarmouth Regional on Sunday, Jan.23.

The Old Rochester Bulldogs won with a score of 6-1. The win brought their seasonal record to 4-10.

According to Head Coach Braly Hiller, the win broke the team’s record of three wins.

The Dolphins  opened the game with a goal from Riley Caruso during the first period.

But from there on out, the Bulldogs stayed on top with Isa Rioux scoring two goals in the first period.

“I think we really moved our feet and got to the puck, "said Old Rochester defense player Kassidy Hill.

The Bulldogs dominated the faceoff circle, winning over half of the head-to-head matchups. The team was able to sustain their speed throughout the game, often leaving the Dolphins to play catch-up.

According to Hiller, the highlight of the game was her team’s ability to backcheck. Hiller said that she was especially impressed with Chase Harmon’s backchecking in the first period.

A backcheck is when an offensive player chases after the player with the puck in transition.

“She leads by example even as an eighth grader,” she said, referring to Harmon. “ She comes to work every day.”

The team displayed unity and teamwork throughout the game, whether through assisting another player or going in for a hug after each goal.

“We bond really well and we work well together,” said Old Rochester forward Kellan Geake.

The team celebrated the win with loud cheers and screams in the locker room.

“I'm glad they got the win tonight so they can feel their improvement,” said Hiller.

The next game will be in Nantucket against the Whalers on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 5:15 p.m.
