Old Rochester Regional School District awarded agricultural education grant
MATTAPOISETT — The Old Rochester Regional School District was awarded a $30,000 grant to support their Grow Education program, an experiential learning opportunity teaching students about how food is grown and produced.
The district received the Massachusetts Farming Reinforces Education and Student Health — or FRESH — grant from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Office for Food and Nutrition Programs.
The competitive, state-funded grant supports farm-to-school initiatives and food literacy education.
Old Rochester will use the $30,000 grant to support activities focused on understanding food systems, specifically pollinators.
The funds will be used for programs at Old Hammondtown School, Sippican Elementary School and Rochester Memorial School across multiple grade levels.
