Old Rochester Regional students win Emerging Young Artists Award
ROCHESTER — Out of 800 submissions for the Emerging Young Artists Awards, Old Rochester Regional High School students Alexis Barber and Dayvie Zuckerman were among 103 artists selected for the annual juried art contest and exhibition held at the UMass Dartmouth on Friday, Feb. 7 in the college of visual and performing arts.
The Emerging Young Artists contest highlights exceptional work from student artists across New England, chosen by a prestigious panel of judges including Ann Kim, the associate dean of the college of visual arts and performing arts at UMass Dartmouth, and Lu Xu, an artist in residence at the university.
"Our students continually amaze us with their creativity and dedication to their craft,” said Kate Butler, art teacher at Old Rochester Regional High School. “We’re so proud to see their talent recognized. Alexis and Dayvie’s success in this prestigious exhibition is a tribute to their hard work and passion for art.”
Junior Alexis Barber created an “amphora depicting a roadway and distant scenery” while Dayvie Zuckerman crafted a “mixed media collage about automobiles.”
“The achievements of Alexis and Dayvie are a testament to the vibrant and supportive arts community we have at Old Rochester Regional High School," said Principal Michael Devoll. "We are thrilled to see their creativity and hard work on display together at this distinguished exhibition."
