Jul 20, 2020

MATTAPOISETT — Onset man Alberto “Berto” Velasquez was arrested June 20 in Mattapoisett for selling drugs out of a room at the Hillside Motel on Route Six.

Velasquez was charged with possession of a Class A substance, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. Velasquez was also detained on an outstanding arrest warrant from Wareham Police for previous charges of assault and battery on a person over 60, animal cruelty and destruction of property.

The Mattapoisett and Wareham Police Departments had been observing the 30 year old at the Hillside Motel where he had been selling drugs. Detectives were able to confirm this by purchasing heroin and fentanyl from Velasquez.

Early on July 20, Velasquez left the motel as a passenger in a car. Officers from Wareham and Mattapoisett stopped the car, but Velasquez refused to leave the vehicle, and was seen trying to consume what were believed to be drugs.

Velasquez was transported to Plymouth District Court for arraignment.
