Opinion: In response to ‘say no to the real hate’
To the editor:
David Pierre needs to understand that the words that he uses matter. On the one hand he talks about Mattapoisett Democratic Town Committee as a “hate group” and on the other, he talks about Christian values. I thought one of the Christian values was to “ love thy neighbor as thy self.” The reading of the book at the library was written by a well known right-wing anti-LGBTQIA and anti-trans author who I guess believes that it is ok to love some people and not others.
People on the Mattapoisett Democratic Town Committee as well as many others who live in Mattapoisett accept everyone as equal members of the community. This protest was not about opposing Christian values, and “eradicating” (really?) anyone who thinks differently.
It was a protest about a group of people who are opposing certain members of the community only because of how they look or who they love. Ask any person who is not white or loves a person of the same sex if they have heard a disparaging word about them and I am sure they would say yes…and probably many times.
I agree with David Pierre that “we should reject the division, bigotry and dishonesty” by some people in this community and start accepting everyone … that starts with you David Pierre.
