ORR hall of fame inducts new class
Four athletes and one team were enshrined in the Old Rochester Regional High School Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 8.
The athletes were lauded at the third annual induction ceremony held at ORR.
“Everybody seemed to have a great time, and it was a great group of nominees,” said ORR Athletic Director Bill Tilden. “It was a successful night.” Record setters, multi-sport athletes, and a hockey squad dubbed “The Team” attended.
In 1992, ORR’s hockey team captured the South Coast Conference title with a perfect record of 10-0-0. In the Eastern Massachusetts Division 3 state tournament, ORR beat a Dover-Sherborn team 3-2 in a game that had two overtime periods. ORR lost to eventual state champions, Westwood High School.
After the win, the Westwood captain told ORR Coach Chuck Michaud it was hardest game they played.
At the time, Michaud told his players: “You will always be remembered as ‘The Team.’”
Individual athletes Michael Burnett, ’85, Robert O’Connor, ’99, Bob Liljedahl, ’99, and Andy MacGregor, ’91, were inducted.
Burnett became a head football coach at the collegiate level. At ORR, he played football, basketball, and track. He earned three varsity letters as a football and basketball player. In track, he earned four letters and was named most valuable player.
O’Connor, a track star, set records for three indoor track events and won the 300-meter race at the Division 4 state track meet. For spring track, he set school records in the 100, 200, and 400-meter dashes. O’Connor was named the division four state champion in the 200-meter race as a junior.
Liljedahl was a three-sport athlete who excelled at football where he set a record of 32 career touchdown passes. Liljedahl then played football at Wesleyan University and earned a law degree from Suffolk University.
MacGregor, is remembered as one of the best golfers to attend ORR.
He earned four varsity letters, was a four-time conference all star, and served as the team’s captain. He also played basketball and baseball.
