In February, Old Rochester Regional High School junior Destyn Miranda was chosen to be the Elks Student of the Month by Wareham Lodge No. 1548.

Criteria for selection includes a student's scholarship, citizenship, performing arts, fine arts, hobbies, athletics, church, school and community service, industry and farming.

Miranda has made tremendous strides over the last three years, according to school leaders. Over the past year, he joined the football team and has worked to improve himself.

The past few years have been academically challenging for Miranda, but in his junior year he has made honor roll for the last two terms. To keep his grades up, Miranda puts in time after school at least twice a week.

Faculty notes that he is a respectful, considerate and kind young man whose positive attitude has set an excellent example for his fellow students.
