Outdoor concert series returns to Rochester farm
Every summer, Rebecca Correia brings together two of the things she loves most – the horse farm where she grew up and live music by up and coming artists.
Correia has hosted the Bennett Farm Concert Series with her parents, Robin and Gary, since 1996.
“It’s kind of morphed and changed over the years,” said the Rochester native. “The last six or seven years it’s become this sort of intimate artist experience.”
At this year's concert on July 12, musicians will perform sets from 3 to 10 p.m. on a stage made by Correia's father. Guests are encouraged to “set up camp” with lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic.
As a full-time musician herself, Correia splits her time between Nashville and her hometown of Rochester.
Through the concern series, she introduces local music lovers to some of the standout artists and friends she’s met through touring.
On the line up is fan favorite Mieka Pauley. Pauley won the first Starbucks Emerging Artist Songwriting Contest as well as Cosmopolitan Magazine’s StarLaunch.
Alyssa Bonagura will also take the stage at Bennett Farm. The Nashville-based artist has already begun to make a name for herself after her song “I Make My Own Sunshine” was featured on a Lowe’s commercial.
“She’s on the precipice of really exploding out of Nashville,” said Correia.
Harrison Whitford, described as John Mayer meets Bob Dylan; Grey Season, featuring two tri-town musicians; James Gagne of Fairhaven and Correia’s cousin Amy will also perform at the concert.
Correia, who will also sing, said the concert is a very “artist friendly” event. The more tickets sold, the more money goes back to the musicians. Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase CDs and other products from performers.
And Correia said there should be something for everyone.
From pop to country to bluegrass to blues, it’s pretty much a little bit of everything,” she said. “If I’m moved by it, that’s what I want to share with people in my backyard.”
Bennett Farm is located at 339 North Ave. The concert will take place rain or shine. Advanced general admission tickets are $30, $35 at the door. VIP tickets, including appetizers and dessert, are $40 and are available in advance or at the door. Kids under 12 get in free.
