Over 100 works on display at Summer Members Show

MARION — With 117 works of art lining the walls and filling the floors of the Marion Art Center, the Summer Members’ Show is exhibited in true “salon style,” said Marion Art Center Executive Director Jodi Stevens.

“We could probably even fit more,” she said.

The Summer Members’ Show invites Marion Art Center members to submit up to two pieces of art that have not previously been shown at the Marion Art Center, and that have been made within the last five years.

“It’s a great way for someone who's just starting out to share their work,” said Stevens, who added that this show is also a good way for the Marion Art Center to “get a feel” of someone’s work for future solo exhibitions.

“It’s a great way to put yourself out there,” she said.

The show is not juried, meaning that any members who submit work will have their pieces featured in the exhibition.

This year’s show leans toward the two-dimensional with oil paintings, pastels, acrylics and photography making up the bulk of the exhibit. But three-dimensional works like stained glass window hangings, woodwork and hand-made textiles are also featured.

“One thing we really like about the Members’ Show [is that] we get a really broad variety [of art],” she said.

The Marion Art Center’s Summer Members’ Show runs through Friday, Sept. 22. For more information, visit https://www.marionartcenter.org/on-exhibit/.
