Planning Board: Solar project subject to our review
A majority of Planning Board members contend that a new solar installation proposed on County Road is subject to their review.
The installation is being billed as a solar garden where South Coast residents can purchase credits to lower electrical bills. Brewster-based My Generation Energy, Inc. will manage the garden, to be located on a 5.9-acre lot behind 512 County Road.
Selectmen briefly discussed the matter at the board’s Tuesday night meeting.
The Zoning Board of Appeals recently approved the project. Project owners Dale and Laura Briggs then filed a building application that was not contested during an appeal period.
Planning Board Chair Stephen Kokkins sent a letter dated Nov. 10 to the town’s attorney Jon Witten and Building Commissioner Scott Shippey. It stated that a majority of his board believed the project is subject to a site plan review under town bylaw.
Planning Board members opposed to the move said the Zoning Board’s decision negated the need for a site plan review.
“There’s some different opinions on the Planning Board,” Town Administrator Paul Dawson said. “They will have to await the town counsel and building commissioner’s response.”
