Plumb Library puppet show presents stories of sea and shore
More than 20 children and a handful of adults escaped the hot sun to see Sparky Davis and her puppets at the Plumb Library. With the help of the audience and a number of puppets, Davis told three stories relating to both sea and shore. The show was hosted by Friends of the Plumb Library.
Davis, who has been performing for 32 years, said she works often in the summer, sometimes doing two or three shows a day.
“I love making people laugh with silly stories,” she said. “And I just love doing shows!”
Beginning with a pirate and his feisty parrot, Davis spent the hour introducing several characters such as fishermen, elves and even Bob Dylan through silly stories that also had lessons in the end. The children had a chance to make imaginary ice cream and read special clam shells or answer questions along the way.
Although the puppet show wasn’t part of the library’s Summer Reading Program, the Plumb Memorial Library reminded participants the program will have its final party at the Congregational Church Friday, July 29. Musician Otha Day will be leading drum circles, and the event will be open only to SRP participants.
