Pre-Town Meeting
The Wareham Finance Committee and the Wareham Town Moderator cordially invite all voters to a pre-town meeting on Thursday, April 24, 2014 in Room 320 of the Wareham Multi-Service Center, 48 Marion Road, Wareham, MA 02571 at 6:30 PM. The purpose of the Preview is to go through and discuss the articles on both the Annual Town Warrant and the Special Town Warrant in anticipation of Town Meeting on Monday April 28th .
The Annual Town Meeting Warrant contains a contingency budget as well as the traditional annual budget both of which must be acted upon in anticipation of the Board of Selectmen placing an override question before the voters to be voted upon by ballot.
It would be helpful for the voters to have has much information as possible prior to the annual Town meeting as to how this override process works as well as knowing what particular departments will be effected by the balanced budget being presented vs. the override budget. Voters will also be able to ask questions about the five year budget plan going forward.
Another item on the agenda is a Transfer of Development zoning article, which is very lengthy and it would be helpful to have an understanding of that article.
The purpose of the Preview will not be to debate the articles, as that should occur at Town Meeting, but rather the pre town meeting will be structured to provide background information ahead of time and to answer specific questions voters may have.
This meeting is an opportunity to ask questions, become more informed about the articles coming before voters, understand how an over-ride process works, and how Town Meeting works. We certainly welcome your questions and encourage you to attend.
You can print copies of the town warrant from the Town website, www.wareham.ma.us
