Preliminary budget for Mattapoisett schools up 2.7 percent

There are still more discussions to be had, but so far it looks like the Mattapoisett School District will have a modest budget increase for the coming fiscal year.

At the Mattapoisett School Committee's Monday night meeting, School Business Administrator Patrick Spencer said the current proposed budget is $6.9 million, up 2.7 percent.

One new position would be added, moving a part-time employee up to full time.

Spencer said town administrators’ reaction to the budget number was positive, and the budget is in a good place.

“We feel we have what we need to keep going forward,” he said.

More meetings with town leaders will take place before a final number is reached. Once the Mattapoisett School Committee approves the budget, residents will vote on it at the Annual Town Meeting.
