MARION — To give people an opportunity to get out of the house, Bernadette Kelly Realty Group is starting a “buck a book” sale every Monday starting Aug. 31 outside its office from 10 a.m. to. 2 p.m.

Residents can browse a collection of gently used books on the porch of the realty group’s office and purchase titles for a $1 donation that will be given to local charities.

Owner Bernadette Kelly said she wants to have a place where residents can browse books during a time when people don’t have a lot to do. With no bookstores left in town and libraries closed for in-person visits, simply getting out and take a peruse of what’s offered is a pleasant activity, she said.

“I think right now, it’s hard for a lot of people to feel like they have some sort of activity to do,” Kelly said.

With the money donated through book purchases, the realty group plans to give the funds to places like local food banks, or start a backpack program for kids.

Gloves, masks and hand sanitizer will be available if need be. Gently used book donations are also welcomed.

The weekly “buck a book” sale will be on the outdoor porch of Bernadette Kelly Realty Group’s office at 340 Front Street on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
