Registration open for Marion Art Center Dance Academy

The Marion Art Center Dance Academy is now accepting registrations for its spring/winter 2016 session. Classes are held on Wednesdays and run for 10 weeks. The spring session focuses heavily on choreography and recital performance.

The sessions will be held on Wednesdays beginning Feb. 24 and will be taught by Joclyne Nunes.

The preschool session (age 3 to 4) will be 3:30 to 4:05 p.m.; beginner (age 5 to 7) at 4:15 to 5:00 p.m. and the new tap class (boys and girls 4 to 9) 5:15 to 6 p.m.

The 10-week class Schedule is as follows: Feb. 24, March 2, March 9, March 16, March 23, March 30, April 6, April 20 - no dance, Apr 27, May 4 and Thursday, May 5 as an extra built in class snow day. The recital is set for Friday, May 6. The dress rehearsal will be at 4:30 p.m. with the recital following at 6 p.m.

The preschool instruction involves ballet warm-up, jazz stretches, basic mat tumbling and basic tap steps. The fee is $145 for Art Center members and $160 for non-members. (Children must be 3 years of age at the start of the session.)

The beginner instruction involves ballet warm-up and barre, jazz stretches and beginner mat tumbling. The fee for the 10-week Session is $155 for members and $170 for non-members.

The tap class is designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds and having fun. The fee is $155 for members and $170 for non-members.
