Richard Whalon, 89

Richard A. Whalon, 89, of Raynham, formerly of Westport and Mattapoisett, died Thursday, Dec. 19 at Sachem Center for Health & Rehabilitation, East Bridgewater. He was the husband of Phyllis G. (Higham) Whalon, to whom he was married since 1944.

Born in Fall River, he was son of the late Elton R. and Lora (Hoose) Whalon. Prior to retirement in 1986, he was a supervisor for the former ComGas of New Bedford for 36 years. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Whalon served as a reserve police officer in Mattapoisett and Fairhaven. He enjoyed traveling across the country.

Including his wife, he is survived by a daughter Donna L. (Williams) Castanha and her husband Edward of W. Bridgewater; a grandson Kevin Allen Williams and his wife Christine; and two great grandchildren Samantha and Sidney. He was brother of the late Gordon A. Whalon.

His memorial service, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Friday, Jan. 17 at the First Baptist Church, Raynham at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Westport.
