Phase 5 of the town’s road improvement project is set to begin in late summer.

The phase will include parts of Pearl, Barstow and Cannon streets with both the roads and sidewalks getting a makeover. Since it can’t go to bid until the funds are released through Town Meeting, Denham said the project would not start until late August or early September, similar to the Mechanic Street project last summer.

That road still has some work to do before it will be finished, and Denham apologized that the sidewalks won’t be ready until after Easter due to Monday’s snow and Friday’s forecast.

But he said, “Everything is moving along on Mechanic Street.”

Once the sidewalks are completed, they will be handicap accessible.

And the work being done in the Village will have a long-term benefit, Denham said. “We’re looking at the next fifty to one hundred years on these streets before there’s major work again.”
