Rochester COA to host picnic, Block Island trip

ROCHESTER — The Council on Aging’s annual Summer Picnic will take place on Monday, Aug. 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Voices in Time, Sharon Jensen’s choral group. Highway Department staff will work the grill. The menu is barbecue with traditional sides, baked beans, corn on the cob and dessert.

Advance sign-up is required in order to have the right amount of food. Transportation is available. Anonymous donations will be accepted. Call 508-763-8723 to make a reservation.

Hanna Milhench and her team will host a special luncheon on Monday, Aug. 19 at noon. Reserve a spot in advance so Millhench prepares the right amount of food. Anonymous donations of $5 are suggested. Call the Senior Center at 508-763-5421 to sign-up.

The Serving the Health Information Needs of Everyone (SHINE) program is back in action at the Rochester Senior Center. SHINE provides free counseling to all Massachusetts residents with Medicare and their caregivers. Counselors will be available on Mondays from 9 a.m. to noon and Tuesdays from noon to 3 p.m. Make an appointment in advance by calling the Senior Center at 508-763-8723.

The COA is heading to Block Island for the day on Monday, Aug. 5. The van will leave the Senior Center at 7:30 a.m. to catch a 9:30 a.m. ferry. The van will return to Rochester at approximately 5:30 p.m. The cost for this day trip is $22.75, and includes a ferry ticket. Advance sign-up is required. Call 508-763-8723 to make a reservation
