Rochester Council on Aging events for March

Volunteers needed – To prepare a soup and sandwich lunch one Monday afternoon a month and to help in the breakfast program one morning a week in several capacities. To volunteer, call 508-763-8723.

March 2017 day trips

  • Friday, March 3 – National Golf Show – Boston Seaport World Trade Center; Leave at 10 a.m. and return at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for admission. Practice golf shots with new clubs, take on-site seminars and enjoy more than 100 vendors. Lunch is on site.

  • Friday, March 10 – Shopping at South Shore Mall and lunch at Cheesecake Factory. Leave at 8:30 a.m. and return at 3:30 p.m.

  • Friday, March 24 – Boston Flower and Garden Show. Leave at 8:30 a.m. and return at 5 p.m. The cost is $17 for admission. Lunch will be on site.

 

Traditional St. Patrick’s Day luncheon

There are only 100 tickets available for this Irish meal and an hour of Irish music on Friday, March 17 at 12 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and are payable upon sign-up.

 

Monthly Programs at the Rochester Senior Center

  • The Pampered Chef – Linda Medeiros returns on on Monday, March 6 at 11:30 a.m. to share her cooking demonstration. Stay for lunch at noon once the demonstration is over and sample the results. You don’t have to be present for the demo to enjoy the lunch. A suggested donation of $4 per person is suggested. Anyone is welcome to attend. Please call us in advance to sign up and for a ride.

  • Monthly Senior Book Club – The book club will meet at the Senior Center on Tuesday, March 21 at 10:15 a.m. Anyone is welcome to attend. Rochester’s library director will facilitate the group. The March book is “The End of Your Life Book Club” by Will Schwalbe. Call Gail Roberts directly at Plumb Library if you have any questions about the group or reading list.

  • Manicures Anyone?– Come for a free manicure on Thursday, March 30 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Old Colony Cosmetology students will come provide this free service. No reservations needed.

  • Coastline’s options counseling presentation – Learn how to plan for the future, stay in our home at long as possible, access support services to maintain your independence and more. Options Counseling can help and will hold a seminar on Tuesday, March 28 at 11 a.m. All are welcome to attend.

  • Candidate’s Forum – The Rochester Council on Aging will hold the Candidate’s Forum at the Senior Center on Thursday, March 23 at 4 p.m. All candidates running for office in the April town election will be invited to introduce themselves to the public and share their thoughts on what they hope to accomplish if elected. Anyone is invited to attend. Call the Council on Aging for a ride at 508-763-8723.

  • Chair Yoga – Mondays, 1-2 p.m. – suggested donation of $3

  • Scrabble – Tuesdays, 9 a.m.

  • Senior Bowling League – Tuesdays, 9 a.m.

  • Cardio Dance Fit Program – Tuesdays, 10-11 a.m.

  • Stepping & Stretching Exercise Program – Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1-2 p.m.

  • Line Dancing – Tuesdays, 2:15-4 p.m. and Fridays, 9:30-11 a.m., $2

  • Ballroom Dancing – Wednesdays,10 a.m.

  • Bingo – Wednesdays, 12:30-3 p.m., Mondays, 6-8:30 p.m.

  • Zumba – Wednesdays, 7-8 p.m., $5

  • Hand & Foot Card Games – Thursdays, 9:00-11:30 a.m.

  • Busy Bees Craft Group – Thursdays, 9-11:30 a.m.

  • Salsa Dance Class – Thursdays, 2:15-3:15 p.m., $16 for 4 weeks or $6 per walk-in

  • New release movies – Friday, 1:30-3 p.m.

  • Blood Pressure Clinic – Wednesdays, 10-11:30 a.m.

  • Ye Olde Breakfast Shoppe – 7-9 a.m.; Prices are on the menu

  • Congregate lunches – Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 11:30-12 p.m.; $2.

  • Fitness Room Program – Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 8-12 p.m.; Tues., 12-4 p.m. The membership fee is $10 per month for unlimited use.
