Rochester crash proves fatal

ROCHESTER — A motorcyclist was fatally injured in a crash at the intersection of Route 58 and Route 28 on May 1.

The motorcyclist, identified by the Plymouth District Attorney’s office as Mitchell Romano, 57, of New Bedford, was hit by an SUV.

According to the District Attorney’s office, Romano was medflighted to Rhode Island Hospital, where he died on May 4.

Rochester Police and Wareham emergency medical services responded to the crash.

According to the District Attorney’s office, the driver of the SUV stopped upon impact, and was questioned by police.

The investigation is ongoing by State Police Detectives and Rochester Police.

Following the crash, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz urged motorcyclists to be careful on the road.

“Spring has arrived here in New England, and with it comes great weather to get out on the open road,” Cruz said. “There have been two serious motorcycle crashes, one fatal, in Plymouth County in less than two weeks. I would like to remind motorists to be aware of motorcyclists and cyclists while driving. We can all share the road responsibly and safely.”
