Rochester maps out Memorial Day parade route

ROCHESTER — Plans are already underway for Rochester’s annual Memorial Day Parade.

The parade, which will take place on Sunday, May 25, may look a little different this year, with the events committee looking to organize a “beautiful and fun event,” said Town Administrator Cameron Durant.

“They want it to be a little bit bigger than past parades,” he said.

Changes to the parade may include an extended route, which would require additional temporary road closures between Town Hall, Gifford Park and the Council on Aging.

At Rochester’s Select Board meeting on Monday, March 17, Select Board members voted unanimously to approve the temporary road closure, which will be from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the day of the parade.

In addition to the extended route, Durant said there are talks of having coffee, pastries and cookies at the Council on Aging, as well as additional parking at the Council on Aging and more space for antique cars and for fire trucks.
