Rochester, Mattapoisett at higher risk

Marion goes “gray”
May 10, 2021

Rochester and Mattapoisett both reached higher covid risk designations, while Marion shifted down to “gray” in state data released May 6.

Rochester reported eight new cases in the week leading up to May 6, down from 18 the week before. However, the town’s total ongoing case count was enough to shift the town from a “yellow” to “red” designation.

In Mattapoisett, 17 new cases were reported between April 29 and May 6, an increase of nine from the week before. The town also shifted from “green” to “yellow.”

Marion, However, saw both a decrease in new cases and a lowering fo status. The town reported no new cases the week leading to May 6, and shifted from “green” to “gray.”

In the state’s color-coded risk designation system, fewer than or equal to 10 active covid cases designates a low-population community as gray, between 10 and 15 cases puts a community in the green, fewer than or equal to 25 cases marks a town as yellow, and communities with more than 25 cases are designated as red.

In the Old Rochester Regional School District, there is one ongoing positive case at each Center and Sippican schools, two each at ORRHS and Rochester Memorial, three at the junior high and none at Old Hammondtown — all according to the district’s covid dashboard.

There are an additional 29 people related to the district in quarantine due to contact tracing.
