Rochester Memorial principal resigns

After only one year at Rochester Memorial School, Principal Dr. Moira Rodgers has resigned to take a position at an educational collaborative near Boston.

Rodgers announced her resignation to parents on May 21, effective at the end of June.

In a letter she wrote, "When I considered the benefits that a move to suburban Boston could bring my children, and to my husband who works in Boston, I could not say no to the offer."

Coming from Falmouth Public Schools where she served as the director of curriculum and instruction for pre-kindergarten to grade six, Rodgers began her position at Rochester Memorial on August 1 of last year. Rodgers took over for Jay Ryan who retired after 14 years as principal.

"There are many good things happening at RMS, and I’m sure they will continue," wrote Rodgers. "I will always have fond memories of an incredible staff and amazing children, and the year I was privileged to serve as principal."

Superintendent Doug White said the position is being posted until June 6, after which there will be a screening process to review applications. Asked if he expects a new principal by the start of school in the fall, White said, "I'm very hopeful that can happen."
