Rochester officials discuss tree, brush clearing

It may take the Rochester Highway Department up to three months to clear away the fallen trees left in the wake of last month's winter storm, said Town Administrator Richard LaCamera.

On Monday, LaCamera said the Highway Department would wait for the snow to melt to continue its clean-up. However, LaCamera said the department would not be clearing any trees and brush from residents’ properties.

“We can’t handle that type of volume,” LaCamera said.

Instead, LaCamera said residents could obtain a burning permit from the Police Department or bring trees and brush to the Mattapoisett Landfill for a fee.

Also due to the storm, LaCamera said the Highway Department would delay its regularly scheduled street clean-up until the end of April.

“It’s difficult for the Highway Department to clean up what they have now,” LaCamera said.
