PROVIDENCE — Rochester Memorial School students played a major role in the Sunday, Jan. 14 Providence Bruins game against the Bridgeport Islanders at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence. 

While they didn’t put on skates and score any points, over 40 Rochester Memorial School fifth- and sixth-grade chorus students sang the National Anthem before puck drop at Sunday’s game.

The Rochester Memorial School chorus participated in the event last year and for several years prior, according to the Old Rochester Regional School District. The group practiced during weekly chorus rehearsals under the direction of Rochester Memorial School music and chorus teacher Susan Audette.

"I am extremely proud of this talented group of students! It's very exciting and exhilarating to sing on the ice and be on the jumbotron. What an awesome experience!" Audette said. "Thank you to Stephanie Cyr, Mike Forns, Tracey Forns, Principal Letendre and our Rochester Memorial School community for their help and support."

The event was open to the entire school and students, family members and friends were able to purchase group seats to enjoy the game and see the group's performance, according to the district. About 300 tickets were sold.

"We are so proud to see our chorus students performing out in the community and applaud their work preparing for this event," Old Rochester Regional School District Superintendent Mike Nelson said. "It was also great to see all of the students, family members and friends who attended the game, and we thank them for attending in support of the Rochester Memorial chorus members."
