Rochester teen arrested on marijuana charges

A Rochester teen was arrested on Friday and charged with marijuana possession with the intent to distribute following an investigation by both the Mattapoisett and Rochester Police Departments.

Seventeen-year-old Matthew Weckesser of Rochester and Kalvin Ferreira of Fairhaven were observed by Mattapoisett police officers to be engaging in hand-to-hand drug transactions at multiple locations, according to police reports.

At 6 p.m., the Mattapoisett Police searched both Weckesser and his 2010 Honda Civic. The police recovered marijuana, scales, packaging material and drug paraphernalia.   As a result of the search warrant, Ferreira was placed under arrest for possession of a class D substance with the intent to distribute, according to police reports.

The officers aslo searched Weckesser’s home. The police found marijuana in multiple rooms of the house, including a closet located in the basement equipped with racks and fans for drying of marijuana.

At that time there was approximately a pound of fresh marijuana drying in the closet.  In addition, narcotics officers also seized hashish, packaging material and additional drug paraphernalia as a result of the search, according to police reports.

Weckesser was placed under arrest by the Rochester Police Department and subsequently charged with possession of a class D controlled substance with the intent to distribute, according to police reports.

In total officers seized more than one pound of marijuana, small amounts of hashish and money.

Members of the Bristol County Sherriff’s Office South Coast Anti-Crime Task Force, Marion Police Department and Plymouth County Sherriff’s K-9 assisted with the investigation.
