Rochester wins National ‘Quality in Construction’ award for asphalt pavement
ROCHESTER — The Rochester Highway Department was presented a “Quality in Construction” award from the National Asphalt Pavement Association for work done to High Street in 2023.
On Monday, June 3, Highway Surveyor Jeff Eldridge showed the Rochester Select Board a plaque the department received.
According to the organization’s website, the National Asphalt Pavement Association “is the only trade association that exclusively represents the interests of the asphalt producer and contractor on the national level with Congress, government agencies, and other national trade and business organizations.”
Eldridge said that 288 towns in the country received the award, 10 in the state of Massachusetts.
“Basically, it’s [due to] the quality of the asphalt, the way that we put it down and the 30% recycled content,” said Eldridge.
Eldridge credited the whole highway department for earning the award.
“We couldn’t have done that good of a job without all of us working together,” said Eldridge.
The town of Marion also won the same award, which was presented at a Tuesday, May 21 meeting of the Marion Select Board.
