Rochester Women's Club celebrates volunteers
The Rochester Women's Club took time on Wednesday night to honor those who help the town and local organizations run by volunteering.
“People do nice things all the time and they don't do it for a pat on the back,” said club member Marsha Hartley.
The Volunteer Appreciation Social was talked about last year, but this November, the women wanted to make it a reality. They mailed invitations to volunteers around town and set up a spread of homemade finger foods for their guests.
Hartley said a lot of people work behind the scenes in town and may go unnoticed, from the members of the Rochester Land Trust to the Council on Aging and Friends of Plumb Library.
Two of the guests, Dale and Nick Debacher, help with the Friends of Plumb Library – Dale as secretary of the board and her husband as “number one helper.”
“They're a very dedicated group,” Dale said of the Friends.
She and Nick said they enjoyed the social, and as relative newcomers to the area, it was a way to learn about the Women's Club and other organizations in town.
“There's good food, we're meeting new people and learning,” said Dale.
