Salty's Soiree draws families

When the sun went down on Friday night camp fires were lit up for the 8th annual Salty’s Silvery Moon Soiree at Dunseith Garden.

Hosted by the Mattapoisett Land Trust, the event featured tales from professional storyteller Andrea Lovett, s’mores, music and luminarias.

Decorated by Center School students, the luminarias were lined up on the walkway.

The event also offered kids a safe space to explore.

“For some of the kids the big attraction is being able to run around in the dark without parents watching their every move,” joked land trust member Don Cuddy.

Dunseith Garden, which is home to Salty the Seahorse, was once a minor tourist attraction complete with other nautical-themed statues to attract passing motorists.

Now the tree-lined park offers residents a place to reflect. “It’s a quiet little nook right here on Route 6,” Cuddy said.
