School choice slots still open

Sep 16, 2011

Two slots for School Choice are still open at Old Rochester Regional High School with 13 students on the waiting list.

There are 37 slots at ORRHS and only 35 students currently enrolled in School Choice, a program where students from out of district can apply to attend school's in another district.

Principal Michael Devoll, speaking at Wednesday's school committee meeting, said that finding students to fill the two empty slots may prove difficult as most school districts have already started the school year.  Bringing the students on the ORR waiting list may prove difficult if the students are already immersed in classes in another district.

There are no empty slots at ORR Junior High.

Two international students are joining ORRHS for this school year, they are Daniel Nielsen from Denmark and Jovana Zagorac from Serbia.

ORRHS accepted a framed poster, donated by a parent, from the National Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. and intends to display it in one of the hallways at the high school.
