Science fair encourages passion, inventions

MARION — Sippican School students explored equestrian issues, 3D printer efficiency, gummy bear osmosis and more at a March 11 Science Fair.

Students from Kindergarten through grade 6 created poster boards, slide shows, or a lab notebook about a project of their choice. They also had to explain the project to a judge, usually from the Mentoring Past the first year program or tri-town teacher.

Students picked projects that they were passionate about as individuals or groups and worked to invent something or follow the scientific method.

Science Fair is organized every year by Chelsey Lawrence, Enrichment Teacher at Sippican School.

“Mrs. Lawrence does a great job organizing Science Fair and making sure everyone learns something new,” said sixth grader Jackson Gierhart, a first place winner in this year’s 5th/6th grade group category.

Students learn and grow from the projects they choose.

“Science Fair is a great learning experience that takes teamwork and dedication.” shared Ollie Fearing, a first place winner for his group’s 3D printing project.

Science Fair also included a demonstration of the Lego Robotics Club, which is led by volunteers from Lockheed Martin and coordinated by Allie Goodman.

Robotics Club students have been working in teams on spaced themed missions, and showed off their coding skills to guests throughout the night.
