ROCHESTER — Bristol County Radio Control Club, which flies model planes, will host its John Nicolaci Memorial Float Fly contest on Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. to early afternoon.  

The contest will take place at Mary’s Pond, with the entrance opposite 507 Mary’s Pond Road. The contest is an Academy of Model Aeronautics sanctioned event, and pilots must be members of that organization. 

“The club is always interested in spectators, whether they’re merely curious or possible new members of the club,” said Ned Watts, Mattapoisett resident and contest director for the club. 

“There will be some beautiful scale models flown by some very skillful model pilots. There will also be some pilots who are less experienced, which sometimes leads to splashes and crashes,” he added.
