A service of hope and healing, 'Blue Christmas'
The twinkling lights and merry songs of Christmas can create bittersweet feelings for those struggling with grief, depression, loneliness or illness. This Advent season, St. Gabriel’s will offer a community worship service, open to all, offering comfort, healing and hope.
The service will be held Sunday, Dec. 21 from 3 to 4 p.m. at St. Gabriel’s.
Sometimes called “Blue Christmas” or “Longest Night,” this service is held close to Christmas, when the winter solstice makes the days shorter and darker. People who are struggling to find merriment in the Christmas season, and friends who support them, are invited to come and sit with one another in a liturgy that speaks of the comforting, restoring love of God for us all.
