Sippican School memorial garden to be re-dedicated

Jun 5, 2023

MARION — The Children’s Memorial Garden in front of Sippican School will be re-dedicated in a ceremony on June 14 at 9:15 a.m.

The student body will have their traditional Flag Day Ceremony around the Flag Pole at 9 a.m., then regroup around the Children’s Memorial Garden. The Marion community is welcome to participate.

The Children’s Memorial Garden was created by past Sippican School principal Marylou Hobson who wanted to commemorate the lives of Sippican School students who passed away during their school years. The Garden Memorial was built surrounding a large spruce tree in the front of the school.

However, according to Marion Parks and Tree Committee Chair Margie Baldwin, an assessment from Bartlett Tree Experts determined that the tree was “too compromised” and needed to come down.

The Memorial Garden includes stone memorial benches and a stump centerpiece.
