Sippican School officials talk new equipment for multi-purpose room

Sippican School Band Director Hannah Moore is aiming to make some changes to the school’s multi-purpose meeting room and cut down on utilities costs with new energy-efficient equipment.

“We have a beautiful multi-purpose room, but the sound system and the light system is consuming an incredible amount of energy. It’s unmanageable. One of the amplifiers is also blown,” Moore said.

On Wednesday, Moore asked the Marion School Committee to approve a plan to replace the light and sound systems as well as to refurbish one of the amplifiers.

Since the room is often used by the community, Moore is asking for donations from parents to help offset the costs of the project, which are unknown at this time.

Several parents have already offered their financial support of the renovations, Moore said.

“It’s good stuff if you take care of it and we want to,” Moore said. “We’ve been talking about this for two years and we would like to get going.”

Committee Chair Brad Gordon agreed.

“Anyone who has been in that multi-purpose room knows that it is the heart of the building,” Gordon said. “We want everything to work the way it should. The things that go on in that room benefit the community.”

Moore said she would report back to the committee next month with an update on the costs for the project.
