Stephen A. Winslow, 75

Stephen A. “Steve” Winslow, 75, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2018 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Jacqueline (St. George) Winslow and the son of Vivian (Bliss) Winslow of Somerset and the late Clifford Winslow. He spent his entire life living in Somerset. Steve was a longtime, beloved coach, teacher and athletic director at Coyle Cassidy High School, and later taught and coached at Dartmouth High School.

Steve was a 1961 graduate of Somerset High School where he was an outstanding three sport star. He quarterbacked the 1958 State Champion Blue Raiders, and was a four year starter in basketball and baseball. He went on to the University of Massachusetts where he played basketball and baseball, before graduating from Southeastern Massachusetts University in 1967. Upon graduation, Steve began his teaching career at Coyle High School and was named the head baseball coach and later the head basketball coach in 1970, and the head football in 1972-1992.

Steve would later add Athletic Director to his duties in 1981. He retired from Coyle Cassidy in 1992 upon his son’s graduation, and moved to
Dartmouth High School, where he taught and coached until his retirement in 2006. Steve was inductedinto the Somerset High School Hall of Fame in 1992, the Coyle Cassidy High School Hall of Fame in 2000, and the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2017.

Steve owned and operated the Dighton Golf Club and Par Three Pub in Dighton from 1978 to 1986. Steve and his family have been lifelong members of Bakers Beach in Westport. He would spend as much time as possible at Bakers, down on the left, right on the waterline.

Steve is survived by his wife and mother; his son, Jake Winslow and wife Tricia Winslow of Rochester, daughters, Victoria Capuano and her husband Jason Capuano of Berkley, Melissa Fallon and her husband Jeff Fallon of Somerset and Stacy Sousa and her husband Louis Sousa of Somerset; he is also survived by nine grandchildren from the area.

In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated and Memorial calling hours will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018 from 10:00am-2:00pm in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset with a service at 1:30pm. Interment will be private.
