ROCHESTER — Strong winds on Feb. 25 brought down a number of trees in Rochester, and kept Eversource, the Department of Public Works and the Police Department busy.

The Rochester Police Department was notified by the Lakeville Police Department of a tree that was down along the Lakeville line at 11:12 a.m. Further investigation revealed the tree was in Rochester, and the Department of Public Works was called in to remove the tree.

Shortly after, at 11:30 a.m., two other calls came in about a trees down across wires. The first call was for 15 Stevens Road, and the second for 99 Perrys Lane. Eversource was notified about both cases, and the entrance to Stevens Road was briefly blocked off, to avoid cars running into low-hanging wires.

At 12:19 p.m. another tree that fell across wires on Clark Road resulted in another call to Eversource.

Later in the afternoon, at 3 p.m., a tree at 100 Burgess Avenue caught fire after it fell on wires. The fire department was called in to extinguish the fire, and to notify Eversource.

The Rochester Police Department also responded to afternoon calls for wires that were down on Sarah Sherman Road, and for a tree that fell at the intersection of Marion Road and Walnut Plain Road, blocking one lane of Marion Road.

At 5:14 p.m. the Rochester Police Department called an officer to close Acushnet Road on both ends after a tree fell across the road. The Highway Department was also called in to help clear the tree.
