Student artists showcase work, fight hunger

MATTAPOISETT — The first smiling faces which greeted the diners at the Empty Bowls fundraiser on Nov. 29 were Delaney Soucy and Megan Shay.

"It's great to see so many people coming out tonight!" said Soucy as she and Shay greeted a couple entering the ORRHS Cafeteria.

Admission was $10 for a serving of Blount Fine Foods soup and a unique hand-crafted bowl to be taken home. Diners could choose from four soups were available and also enjoy biscuits baked by the ORRHS Cooking Club. The proceeds from the night will go the the Empty Bowls Project, which aims to combat global hunger. 

Thursday’s project was coordinated by ORRHS Art Department teachers, Kate Butler and Jo Mogilnicki and staffed by student volunteers like Soucy, Shay and Claire Barry, who served soup.
