Students participate in state music festival

Two Old Rochester Regional High School students performed at the South Eastern Massachusetts Music Educators Association (SEMMEA) Districts Virtual Music Festival on January 8 and 9.

Mason Tucker, a senior, and Eddie Gonet IV, a junior, were recommended for participation in the “All-State” music festival, which brings together the top musicians from across Massachusetts.

Tucker played the piano for a jazz rendition of “Bye Bye Blackbird.”

"I'm glad that I got to see old friends from past District Festivals once again,” Tucker said. “I am proud that we at least put together something refreshing during these trying times."

Gonet sang bass in a choir.

"It brought me much joy to be able to sing with other people again, even if over Zoom! It drove my family crazy singing classically in the house, but I am very glad to have had this effervescent opportunity," Gonet said.

Both Tucker and Gonet thanked Music Department Director Michael Barnicle for his help preparing for auditions and navigating virtual performances.
